Dr. Wiebe Boer is currently an Associate Director with the Rockefeller Foundation’s Africa Regional Office based in Nairobi, Kenya. He joined the foundation in early 2008 after three years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm. While at McKinsey, Wiebe primarily focused on issues related to organizational transformation, including advising a number of global firms on shared service and outsourcing strategies for their finance and HR functions. In addition, he served on the team that helped the Kenyan government develop their ambitious Vision 2030 economic development plan. Prior to joining McKinsey, Wiebe spent two years in Mauritania managing a USAID funded food aid development project for World Vision.
Wiebe earned a PhD in African History from Yale University and an undergraduate degree from Calvin College. While carrying out his dissertation research in Nigeria, Wiebe and a group of partners set up the first major ISP in central Nigeria. Wiebe was born and raised in Jos, Nigeria to Dutch missionary parents and holds Dutch, Canadian, and American citizenships. He is married to Joanna Bachew, a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, and together they have three sons aged 5, 2, and 2 months.
