Justine Atkinson – Director and CEO of Aya Distribution
Justine is a pioneer in film distribution strategy. She is the founding Director of Aya Distribution an international sales, distribution and film production company focusing on African content.
Justine began her career in film distribution after graduating from the University of York with a BA (Hons) in Politics. Following this she worked for the child rights organization, Stepping Stones Nigeria, on the distribution of the Nollywood film, The Fake Prophet, which was produced as an advocacy tool. Inspired by this experience Justine decided to work with a number of key contacts and set up her own company – Aya Distribution.
Aya believes that film has the power to inspire imagination, stimulate debate and even change how people see the world. Aya strives to produce and distribute pioneering titles that excite curious minds and express points of view rarely explored in the media.
The main focus of Aya is to open new avenues of distribution up for Africa content, and to use film as a medium for social change. Aya Distribution is currently working to start its own video on demand platform in order to further the reach of African titles. They are also currently working with leading Director, Teco Benson to produce a Nollywood film on female genital mutilation (FGM).
