Judson B Welsh has 35 years experience in managing banks and businesses in West Africa and is a recognized finance expert in West Africa. He is currently lead consultant on the Access to Finance component of USAID’s West Africa Trade Hub and is a finance expert for Bank World.
Recently, he participated in strategic planning at senior levels: ECOWAS Public Private Sector Integration Planning Committee; the African Union Expert Reference Committee for the Pillar II of the AU/NEPAD/CAADP policy on agricultural finance; and the EU Financial ECOWAS Financial Integration Planning Commission.
He started his career in West Africa Chemical Bank New York (now Chase Bank) in 1974 by developing and implementing a credit analysis course for Ghana Commercial Bank delivered to over 120 Sub-Saharan Bankers. He was founder of Chemical Bank Regional Representative Office in West Africa for sovereign risk financing; founder of Boston Bank Cameroon, a commercial bank; advisor to the Chairman of the National Savings Bank in Cote d’Ivoire; and Head Trade Finance sub-Sahara Africa and responsible for $50 million asset recovery effort in Sierra Leone just prior to the civil war for Fidelity Bank, Philadelphia, London Branch office.
He has also worked on projects for the African Development Bank, USAID, UNDP/IFC and the World Bank.
Judson Welsh has a Masters in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management, a BA from St Lawrence University, Canton New York with a major in Economics; and the equivalent of a CPA from Columbia University as a result of being selected as a fast track young professional at Chemical Bank, New York. He is fluent in English and French.
