Jeff Abrams, an associate at Bankable Frontier Associates (BFA), currently manages Gateway Financial Innovations for Savings (GAFIS), a special project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc. (RPA), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), and managed by BFA. Abrams focuses on strategic planning and analysis of market-based initiatives to extend the “bankable frontier” for effective savings accounts. The GAFIS project works to support five banks in five developing countries to leverage existing scaled ‘gateway’ opportunities (e.g., G2P, remittances, innovative transactional platforms and/or existing entry-level bank accounts) to enhance savings activity in the bank by poor clients. Jeff manages the multi-faceted engagements with and across the five banks, which are: BANSEFI (Mexico), Standard Bank of South Africa, Bancolombia, ICICI Bank (India) and Equity Bank (Kenya). Jeff is spending the first half of 2011 in Nairobi, working closely with Equity Bank on its GAFIS project.
Abrams has worked on various other projects while at BFA. Separate from BFA, Abrams has experience as an attorney and a real estate development entrepreneur.
