He is currently the Director of Banking Operations, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and was a former Director, Monetary Policy Department of the CBN. He is also the Chairman of the Payment Infrastructure and Strategy Committee of the Payment System in Nigeria; has helped in producing the guidelines for mobile payment services with greater focus on P2P mobile payments in Nigeria. Mr. Olekah has written academic research papers on macro-economic policy and payment system issues and belongs to a number of professional bodies.
