Dr Fred Mudhai is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism and Global Media-Communication in the Media Department at Coventry University, UK.
He is co-editor of African Media and the Digital Public Sphere (2009) and was part of IT and Civil Society Network in the IT and International Cooperation Programme at the US Social Science Research Council (2003-2005).
His other publications include a chapter on radio culture in Popular Media, Democracy and Citizenship in Africa (2010), a chapter on civic use of mobile phones in Reformatting Politics: Information Technology and Global Civil Society (2006), a chapter on internet and journalism in Beyond Boundaries: Cyberspace in Africa (2002) and a number of journal articles.
His journalism awards include two on ICT at global level. He is working on a book on Civic Engagement, Digital Networks and Political Reform in Africa, and co-editing a book on Online Journalism in Africa.
He was a full time journalist at The Standard Group (Nairobi) in the 1990s, also contributing to outlets in South Africa, the UK and the USA.
