As the DISCOP AFRICA Executive Manager, Cherise Barsell has been key in bringing together hundreds of African TV, production and advertising executives to the annual DISCOP AFRICA TV content market in order to build the African TV industry through professional business exchanges and informative workshops and conference sessions. Her travels in Africa and continuous dialogue with leading players in the African TV industry continue to sculpt her understanding of the market and help her implement creative solutions to enhance the quality and profitability of TV on the continent. She overseas the DISCOP AFRICA events and has been central in the creation and management of the MADE IN AFRICA initiative to support sales for independent African producers. Barsell has spoken at many conferences on her work and against audiovisual piracy in Africa, including the OPTIMA Broadcaster’s Conference in 2010, PAMRO in 2009 and the AITEC Broadcast and Film conference in 2008. Starting her professional career in Budapest after completing her studies at Bard College in New York and Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, Barsell now lives in France, with one foot in Africa, and continues to broaden her global perspective.
