The university council appointed Charles as the first General Manager of the commercialization and consultancy division of the university. In this challenging position, Charles has been responsible of the establishment of the university company from scratch since 2005. This was done by establishing the structure, setting up of business systems and crafting and execution of the company’s strategic plan. The company has now grown and become profitable and now Charles oversees 4 divisions and over 50 staff members.
JKUATES is fully owned company of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. Its mandate is to take the university to the people by availing its innovations and services to public in a commercially sustainable manner. It has 4 divisions in ICT, Agri-based biotechnology products, Enterprise Development Centre and Consultancy
Previously, Charles was the Executive Director of this Federation of 12 ICT associations, Charles used to oversee a network of almost all people involved in ICT industry in Kenya. He was a key link between ICT industry and the government, research and academia and all other stakeholders Charles also served as the Technical committees Coordinator- Kenya Kountry Business Incubator of the Jomo Kenyatta University Agriculture and Technology. Prior to this, he was the head of ICT practice at the local office of Andersen Consulting (DCDM) for 4 years. Again, prior to that he served as the CEO of a medium size IT integration company, and also served as the CIO of a local Kenyan bank for 5 years. Charles is a 1988 MBA graduate in Finance and IT of St Joseph's University, PA, USA and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Management from Jersey City State College, NJ, USA. Currently, Charles is the Vice President of Global Alliance for Bridging Digital Divide-Hong Kong, He is also one of the 36 Panel of Experts of United Nations- World Summit Awards (WSA). Previously, he also served as Vice - Chairman - Computer Society of Kenya for 10 years, Founder Member/Director, Kenya Network Information Centre a CCK Subsidiary, Director, EAN (European Article Numbering) Kenya Ltd., Vice Chairman (Country Coordinator) Kenya - Globe Program of the USAID, Treasurer, Kenya Red Cross Society -Nairobi Branch and Chairman, Kenya United States Association - Information Committee.
