BARRY LAMBERT, SETANTA SPORTS, UK
I have worked in the electronic media both in UK and Africa for 33 years. My experience started by reporting on sport for both national and private radio broadcasters and I was a founder of the first truly independent radio station in Africa…Capital Radio broadcasting from the Transkei in South Africa…where I was the Director of News and Sport.
I was a television sports presenter at the SABC where I negotiated and presented Italia 90, the first time that the FIFA World Cup had been seen in South Africa. I was a member of the management team that created Supersport and negotiated all sporting content for the channel as well as being the first Head of Sport at Supersport and their chief sports anchor for the channel.
I was voted sports presenter of the year for Radio in 1986, TV Sports Presenter of the year 1990 as well as South African Television Presenter of the Year 1990.
In 1993 I joined CSI (Now Octagon) where I negotiated representation deals with SA Rugby and Cricket, Kenya Cricket, Zimbabwe Cricket and Rugby as well as TCCB (Now ECB) cricket and I created the World of Rugby weekly rugby show for the IRB.
I was a co-founder of TV Africa and LiM Africa and my responsibilities were to negotiate, plan and produce major sporting events on these channels and create local sports programming for them.
In 2007 I entered into a joint venture with the Irish sports network Setanta Sports to form a 24/7 African Sports Network.
