CV

Adnaan Jiwaji graduated with a Masters of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. He received his BSc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Science with a minor in Biomedical engineering also from MIT. His master thesis work was development of remote laboratories for university level courses in electrical engineering in Sub-Saharan Africa. He was responsible for the deployment and spread of the remote laboratories in curricula at Makerere University of Kampala (Uganda) and University of Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania). His work has been presented at the American Society of Education Engineering conference in Austin, Texas, USA (2009) and the Interactive Computer Aided Learning conference in Vienna, Austria (2008). His previous research work includes Bioinformatics application development, which has been published in the Bioinformatics Journal (January, 2008), and research in electronic control systems.

 

Adnaan is the co-founder of PAYU Computing Ltd based in Kigali, Rwanda (www.payucomputing.com). PAYU aims to increase computer and Internet usage in developing countries by providing these services in a sustainable way. He is working with government ICT agencies in Rwanda, Jamaica, Uganda and Tanzania to pilot and deploy the system.

 

He is currently a software engineer in the Clusters and Parallel Storage Technology group at Oracle. He is working on development of a new distributed file system optimized for the Oracle database. He is heading the team responsible for seeing the product through its first Windows customer release in December 2009. His previous work experience include software and electrical engineering positions at Children’s Hospital Boston, BridgeWater Associates and Xerox corporation all in the US.
