With Africa being expected by rest of the world to become next big producer and market for creative content and entertainment, Nairobi is preparing to host the 2012 Broadcast, Film & Music Africa (BFMA) conference in July, aimed at evaluating opportunities for growth.
Known by broadcasters, film makers and advertising agencies simply as “BFMA”, the conference is styled as a thought leaders convention to assesses trends in film, broadcast and music business in Europe, the US , Asia and Africa- and will be characterized by experience sharing through presentation by experts from around the globe.
AITEC Africa is putting together this event that will be take place at the Oshwal centre in July 10-11.
According to the Event Director Ryan Moroney, the conference will this year be re-designed to maximize networking and interaction opportunities between researchers, film makers, music producers, with advertising agencies and broadcasters grouped in a way to encourage synergy among these actors. Collaboration between different players is identified as crucial to unleashing full market potential. “We are engaging the programme board here in East Africa and in Europe to evaluate how best we can increase information sharing and networking between the professionals with their specific interests.”
The event will also mate original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and digital technology vendors with broadcasters and creative content developers and is being marketed in Europe and Asia jointly with the Zanzibar Film Festival which also takes place in the same week - as a proposition for delegates to experience two East African film events at a go.
But even as the film, broadcasting and music take key stage, the development of Apps, animation, mobile film and mobile broadcasting are likely to win a following as new fronts for investment and knowledge in the conference. The organizers are already looking for a sponsor to set up an animation and broadcast apps development pavilion to give an opportunity to new talent and innovators to showcase their creativity.
Early participation confirmation from such companies as InMobi, Africa’s biggest mobile advertising concern, DStv, global leader in satellite television, Royal Media Services, Omni-media, Ghana, Apple systems among others.
