Centro Internacional de Conferencia Joaquim Chissano, Maputo
15-16 October 2008

PRESS RELEASE
24 July 2008

The Mozambique ICT Exhibition has been initiated by the Ministry of Science & Technology to provide an educational platform for all government ministries, departments and organisations, as well as all major private sector enterprises and SMEs. They will meet together over two days to share knowledge, learn form local and international experts and network with each other in both the conference and the exhibition.

The event will be held over 15-16 October at the country’s international-class conference venue, Centro Internacional de Conferencia Joaquim Chissano.

The Ministry has invited AITEC Africa, the continent’s leading organiser of ICT events, to produce and manage the Convention. AITEC has been organising ICT conferences and exhibitions in Africa since 1990 and last held a conference in Mozambique in 2000. The target audience in government and the private sector in Mozambique will be invited to attend free of charge in order to attract high-level participation from across all enterprises and all government departments.

In order to ensure the success of the event, the Ministry encourages key stakeholders in the ICT sector to commit sponsorship support.

Objectives of the Event
The Convention has a number of important key objectives:

· A top priority of the Convention is to provide high-quality briefings by local and international experts on the development and deployment of ICT strategies for high-level managers, IS directors and managers and ICT professionals. This will be done through case studies and training sessions in the conference.
· The Convention also has an important commercial aspect by providing a showcase in the exhibition where vendors and service providers can display and demonstrate their latest products and services and where users can gain competitive market intelligence to help them make the right purchasing decisions.
· The Convention will play an important role in enhancing the development of Mozambique’s ICT community. As Sean Moroney, Chairman of AITEC, says: “There are few opportunities for managers and professionals in this sector to gather together and understand common interests and problems. It is important for ICT professionals to develop an awareness of the vital role they have to play in the development of the economy and the positive social impact their work can have. The event will help them develop a broader vision of their professional development, opportunities and alternative career paths.”
· The broader public will have an opportunity to visit the exhibition, gain knowledge and be stimulated to engage creatively with ICT.
· By inviting all media to attend the event, broader knowledge and awareness of ICT will be disseminated through the media.
