Kenya’s Prime Minister to open first African Broadcast and Film Conference

The strategic importance of the first African Broadcast, Film & Convergence Conference, to be held in Nairobi over 23-15 September, will be reinforced by Kenya’s Prime Minister, Hon Raila Odinga, delivering the opening welcome address to the over 300 delegates attending from throughout Africa.

Announcing the Prime Minister’s participation, Oscar Beauttah, the Conference Chairman, said that broadcasting is high on the government’s agenda and the conference would play an important role in advancing the country’s digital broadcasting programme. “The conference has an outstanding line-up of distinguished speakers from throughout Africa and beyond, and their input will provide valuable insights into the technological options available to the country as we pursue a 21st Century broadcast strategy.”

David Maingi, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, a partner in the event, welcomed the Prime Minister’s support for the event. “Kenya is poised to become a regional film-making centre and the Prime Minister’s support is welcome to increase the profile of the event as an international platform to showcase the expertise and facilities that Kenya can offer the international film-making industry. We welcome the Prime Minister’s support for an event that is going to put Kenya on the international film industry map.”

The conference, organised by AITEC Africa, will be held over three days and will include a programme of over 40 African and international speakers. It will be supported by an exhibition to showcase latest broadcast and film technologies and production systems.
