AITEC MOZAMBIQUE ICT CONGRESS: AITEC announces impressive speaker line-up for fourth annual Mozambique ICT Congress

AITEC Africa has assembled an impressive group of over 40 local and international speakers to make presentations at this year’s ICT Congress. With the theme this year of “Building on local skills and capacity to develop effective ICT solutions that address local needs”, the congress aims to showcase successful computing and communications projects and organizations in the country. The Congress will take place at Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre over 5-6 October.

Announcing the line-up, AITEC Chairman Sean Moroney said the Programme Advisory Board, made up of 18 ICT industry leaders in Mozambique, had provided valuable guidance in designing a programme to meet the training and information needs of Mozambique’s ICT community.

The programme covers a wide range of key subjects in 13 sessions over two days, including the following:

• Making bandwidth available for national development
• eLearning to improve access and quality of education
• Banking the unbanked
• ICT systems for productivity and competitiveness
• Reaching rural communities with practical ICT solutions
• ICT management strategies
• Open Source software for development
 
Conference presentations confirmed for the event include:
• “Advancing the gender agenda for ICT professionals” by Adrian Schofield, Manager, Applied Research Unit, Joburg Centre for Software
• “The readiness of African networks for broadband” by Bill Hearmon, Chairman, African Broadband Forum, South Africa
• “The roadmap to small business success - A decade of learning” by Arthur Goldstuck, CEO, Worldwide Worx, South Africa
• “Computer science education as an engine for innovation and development” by Prof. Erkki Sutinen from Finland who is STIFIMO Chief Technical Assistant in the  Ministry of Science and Technology

The Congress will include a focus session on “Banking the unbanked”, with the following presentations:

• “Payment dynamics in emerging markets” by Barry Coetzee, CEO, iVeri, South Africa
• “Extending rural banking services in Mozambique” Mulweli Rebelo, Director General, Ologa, Mozambique
• “MIFOS: An IT platform to improve the delivery of banking services for the unbanked” by Miguel Jóia Santos, Consultor, Soluções em Banca e Seguros (SBS), Mozambique
• “Service-oriented architecture for secure mobile transactions” by Sead Muftic, CEO of SETECS Mobile Technologies in India
