The actualisation of this visionary research, training and business facility is an important milestone in the development of high-tech expertise and institutional capacity for Mozambique and Southern Africa. The Summit will gather the region’s leading ICT policy-makers, regulators, innovators, developers, academics, researchers and businesses to celebrate the Park opening while at the same time sharing knowledge, developing knowledge sharing and business linkages and exploring investment and market development opportunities across the SADC region. The Summit will be held under the auspices of the Mozambique Ministry of Science & Technology and organised by AITEC Africa. The Mozambique government’s substantial investment in the development of the Science & Technology Park reflects its strong commitment to partnering with the private sector to achieve its economic development vision based on entrepreneurship, innovation and technology to take the national economy beyond its current dependency on extractive industries and the importation of technology and skills. The Park provides the world-class infrastructure on which world-class innovation, product development, entrepreneurship and training can be built – provided local and international investors seize the abundant opportunities that this facility presents. The purpose of the Summit is to highlight these opportunities, identify the priority technological needs that need to be addressed in the region and encourage small and large enterprises to take up the challenge of developing the applications, innovations and business models needed to improve the quality of life of the region’s citizens The Mozambique government is fully committed to a regional vision that opens regional markets, deepens economic integration and intensifies cross-border synergies. The Summit is intended to catalyse the achievement of these goals through the application of technological innovation and entrepreneurship, taking up the Mozambican governments invitation to local, regional and international stakeholders to base their operations in Mozambique in general – and at the Science & Technology Park in particular. So far IBM and Oracle have seen the potential of the Park and committed to establishing training and development facilities there. Other stakeholders need to take their lead – and the Summit will explore the opportunities and challenges available for them in the local and regional markets. Thought-leaders are invited to contribute to the Summit in the following ways: * Participating in panel discussions * Making formal presentations * Leading mini-workshops The Summit will be in English and Portuguese, with simultaneous translation.
